To see all the GPS Routes on a map, and for Hints & Tips about using Outdooractive, please see the guidance below.

Outdooractive Map View

The Outdooractive page for Hampton Hikers opens with all the Hampton Walking GPS Routes shown in a list view (see screenshot for an example); on the Outdooractive web page (not the screenshot) click the "map" icon to the right of "Viewing format" (highlighted in yellow in the example screenshot) to see the GPS Routes on a map.

This screenshot shows the map view of our GPS Routes on Outdooractive as at 16 Dec 2023.

In the map view webpage (not the screenshot), zoom in to see the "walker" flag for each route in the area that interests you. Placing the mouse pointer on the flag shows the route and title. Clicking the flag brings up summary walk details (see screenshot). Clicking the summary panel takes you through to details of the route.

Outdooractive Hints and Tips

1) For viewing on a phone, Landscape orientation typically works better than Portrait.

2) The order in the List View of routes can be changed in the Sort drop down menu next to Viewing Format. The Sort options are: Update, Alphabetically, Date Published & Date Created

3) You can use the + and - buttons on the top left-hand corner of the map to zoom in and out, and this method will work on every device. On a touch screen device, pinch to zoom out, etc will usually work as well. On a PC/Mac, a mouse scroll wheel will often work too.

4) Where more than one route starts at the same place (eg, The Hampton Health and Fitness Club) a number icon shows how many routes there are at that location. Positioning the mouse pointer on the number "explodes the number icon" to show "walker" icons for the individual routes. (You may have to zoom in a little before this works.)

5) The free Outdooractive apps available for iPhone and Android make it very easy to get the routes onto your phone. Free registration is required to use the apps and gives access to mapping from OpenStreetMap. If you choose to subscribe to Outdooractive you also get access to OS Maps and other premium maps, and you can download maps to the Outdooractive app allowing you to follow the route on a map on your phone without a data connection.

6) To follow a route in any other navigation app, please first download a GPX file from the route page for the walk you want. Click the "3 dots" menu for additional items then select the GPS menu item (highlighted in the screenshot below). You have to login at Outdooractive to download a route but you do not have to be a subscriber. Having saved the GPX file, follow the guidance in your chosen app for importing a GPX file.

This webpage also lists all the walks with GPS routes and the page for each walk has a link to download the GPX file for the route.
